Fields of Mistria Marriage Guide

Learn how to get married in Fields of Mistria 1.0, from dating and 10 Hearts to the Engagement Ring, proposal, wedding planning, married life, and children.

Marriage is fully available in Fields of Mistria 1.0. To get married, choose an eligible romance candidate, enter the Dating route at 8 Hearts, reach 10 Hearts, learn the Engagement Ring recipe from Elsie, craft the ring at a Forge, complete the proposal path, and choose a wedding date. The wedding then begins married life, including new spouse routines and an optional route to having children.

If you are still deciding whom to pursue, start with the complete romanceable characters list. For the mechanics before marriage, use the Romance Guide and Heart Events Guide. For the exact ring recipe and crafting route, use the Engagement Ring Guide. After the wedding, the Children Guide covers the Mystical Feather and family progression.

The important distinction is that 10 Hearts alone does not instantly marry you. Hearts unlock the end of the relationship route, while the Engagement Ring and proposal finalize your choice.

Step 1: Choose one of the 12 marriage candidates

Fields of Mistria currently has twelve marriage candidates. The six bachelorettes are Adeline, Celine, Juniper, Reina, Seridia, and Valen. The six bachelors are Balor, Caldarus, Eiland, Hayden, March, and Ryis.

Marriage candidates are not gender-locked, so your player character's gender does not restrict whom you can marry. Caldarus and Seridia are special candidates tied more closely to later story progression than the regular town residents, so players pursuing them should expect to advance the Mines and related quests alongside their relationship work. See the Caldarus Guide and Seridia Guide for those routes.

You do not need to make your final marriage decision immediately. Version 1.0 allows you to date multiple candidates, and the proposal system gives you room to see relationship content before making the permanent commitment.

Step 2: Reach 8 Hearts and choose Dating

The major commitment decision before marriage appears at 8 Hearts. Romance candidates have Heart Events as their relationship develops, and the 8-heart stage lets you choose between a romantic Dating route and a Best Friends route.

Choose Dating if you want that character to remain eligible for marriage. From there, continue the normal relationship loop: talk to them regularly, give appropriate gifts, remember birthdays, and take advantage of dates when available. Our Fields of Mistria Gifts Guide is useful here because a repeatable liked or loved gift is more practical than randomly handing over valuable inventory. The Universal Likes Guide is useful when you want a town-wide shortcut.

You can continue dating more than one person before engagement. That makes it possible to explore several routes rather than locking your save to the first candidate who reaches 8 Hearts.

Step 3: Raise your dating partner to 10 Hearts

Version 1.0 raised the NPC Heart cap to 10 Hearts and added 10-heart proposal content. Keep building the relationship after the 8-heart Dating decision until the candidate reaches the maximum relationship level.

The fastest route is usually consistency rather than expensive gifts: speak to the candidate whenever convenient, use loved gifts when you have sustainable access to them, and prioritize birthdays because they are unusually valuable relationship days. Dates also become more useful in 1.0 because NPC Studio increased the amount they contribute to Heart progression.

If an expected scene is not appearing, check the Heart Events Guide before assuming your save is broken. Some candidates have story requirements in addition to Hearts, particularly the secret candidates.

Step 4: Get the Engagement Ring recipe from Elsie

After you reach 10 Hearts with an NPC you are dating, Elsie provides the recipe for the Engagement Ring the following morning. Read the recipe and craft the ring at a Forge.

This is one reason it is useful to progress the Mines and Blacksmithing while working on romance. A player who focuses exclusively on gifts can reach the relationship requirement and then discover that their crafting or story progression is behind the marriage route.

For the exact ingredients, Blacksmithing requirement, Forge details, and Dragon-Forged Core route, see the Engagement Ring Guide.

Step 5: See the 10-heart proposal content before committing

One of the most useful 1.0 mechanics is that eligible 10-heart events can be retriggered with the Engagement Ring until you actually propose. That means you do not have to treat the first 10-heart event you see as an irreversible marriage choice.

Each candidate's proposal content can also reward a special item. If you are interested in seeing several characters' scenes, do that before finalizing the engagement. Once you make the actual proposal, you are choosing the person you intend to marry.

This system also explains why the site's Romance Guide and this marriage page have separate purposes: the romance page covers dating and relationship mechanics broadly, while this page focuses on the permanent commitment sequence.

Step 6: Propose and choose your wedding date

Once you finalize the proposal, you become engaged and the game asks you to select a wedding date. Current community documentation indicates that the earliest selectable wedding date is several days after the proposal, giving you a short engagement period before the ceremony.

There is an important scheduling rule from official Patch v1.0.3: Spring 14, Fall 7, and Winter 7 cannot be selected as Wedding Days because they are festival setup dates. If you are planning the ceremony around birthdays, festivals, or farm work, use the Fields of Mistria Calendar to avoid unnecessary conflicts.

During the engagement period, speak to your fiancé. Wedding planning lets you customize details including the flower color, wedding cake flavor, and reception meal. These choices personalize the ceremony; they do not replace the Heart, ring, or proposal requirements.

What happens on the wedding day?

The wedding is a full event rather than a short dialogue interaction. Current 1.0 documentation describes the day as a semi-interactive ceremony sequence. You are taken to prepare for the wedding, can select wedding attire, and then proceed through the ceremony and reception.

Do not panic about losing a full farm day. Community documentation for the 1.0 marriage system notes that routine chores such as crop watering and caring for animals are handled for you during the wedding event. The ceremony is meant to occupy the day without punishing you for participating in the relationship finale.

Afterward, your spouse moves into the farmhouse and receives an altered routine. Marriage therefore changes more than the Social tab: the character becomes part of your home life and gains additional post-marriage dialogue and behavior.

What happens to other people you were dating?

Fields of Mistria allows multiple dating relationships before you settle on a spouse. Engagement is the point where those parallel routes become relevant.

NPC Studio added settings around the relationship-status changes and dialogue that occur after engagement. By default, other people you were dating can transition to Best Friends when you commit. This prevents the pre-engagement multi-dating system from turning into multiple simultaneous marriages.

If you are intentionally trying to view multiple 10-heart scenes or collect candidate-specific special items, do that before finalizing the proposal. Marriage itself is a one-spouse system.

Married life, kissing, and spouse routines

Version 1.0 added additional post-marriage dialogue and updated NPC routines for spouses. You can also kiss a romance partner while dating, engaged, or married, so physical affection is not limited to the wedding scene.

After marriage, your spouse moves into the farmhouse and follows a changed schedule. Community documentation also notes spouse-specific furniture rewards after the wedding. These details make marriage a continuing relationship state rather than an ending cutscene.

There is currently no established divorce mechanic in version 1.0, so treat the final proposal as a meaningful save decision rather than something you can casually undo later.

Can you have children after marriage?

Yes. Children were added in Fields of Mistria 1.0, but having a child is optional rather than automatic.

After you have been married for a period of time, the family storyline can begin and eventually involves the Mystical Feather. The system lets you decide whether you actually want to expand the family, so players who only want marriage can stop after the wedding without being forced into parenthood.

Use the Fields of Mistria Children Guide for the Mystical Feather timing, baby arrival, cradle, spouse behavior, and current 1.0 family limits.

Marriage troubleshooting

If you are at 10 Hearts but cannot get married, check the route in order. First confirm that you selected Dating, not Best Friends, at the relevant relationship stage. Then make sure the character is actually at 10 Hearts and that you have received and learned Elsie's Engagement Ring recipe. Craft the ring at a Forge and verify that any candidate-specific story requirement is complete.

Caldarus is the most important example: current 1.0 documentation specifically notes that he cannot be married until Breaking the Final Seal has been completed. Seridia is also deeply tied to the final-seal storyline, so do not treat the secret candidates as identical to a normal town romance. Use their dedicated Caldarus and Seridia guides for route-specific troubleshooting.

If the problem is the wedding calendar rather than the proposal, avoid Spring 14, Fall 7, and Winter 7 on v1.0.3 or later.
